Essa Convention On Sport Integrity Protection Will Come Into Force In September

Another member of the european union – switzerland signed the essa convention on integrity protection in sports.

Switzerland has become the fifth state – a member of the council of europe, which ratified the document, following norway, portugal, the republic of moldova and ukraine. The council of europe announced that the convention against manipulating sports competitions will come into force on september 1, 2019 after its approval by the western european state.

Today the problem of contractual matches is especially acute. Only in the second quarter of 2018, the organization recorded more than 60 suspicious cases.

Halid ali, the essa secretary general, who was developing an international treaty on behalf of the sector, said:

«The convention establishes a number of prantical measures to solve at the international level matches at the international level, and it has received broad support for essa and the bookmake sector. Theraefore, its ratification is predominantly positive step. Nevertheless, there are obstacles to overoming this problem».

Last year, as part of preparations for ratifying the convention, the council of europe appealed to essa to coordinate and submit a thematic report on the honesty of the sports rates on behalf of the regulated sector. This document outlines sector on the main problems associated with the struggle against contractual matches.
