German authorities will double the number of available licenses for online betting, while they rejected a controversial interregional gambling contract. This writes calvinayre.Com.
The leaders of 16 german regions gathered in berlin to discuss ways to solve the problems of the gambling industry, which the eu supreme court recognized illegal.
In october, hessen’s official officials offered a number of measures to bring the federal contract in line with, including the removal of arbitrary restrictions on the number of available licenses for online bookmakers. In september 2014, germany issued 20 licenses, but none of them was activated due to legal problems.
On friday, representatives of the german lottery and the bookmakers association deutsche lotto and totoblock (dltb) stated local media that land ministers had already agreed to double the number of available licenses up to 40, that is, all 35 applicants for them will be automatically approved.
However, ministers rejected proposals for distributing licensing regime for online casino and poker.
The changed agreement is likely to officially come into force in june.
